The Indrani Mukerjea case details

Indrani Mukerjea was granted bail by the Supreme Court in 2022, nearly seven years after she was arrested by the Mumbai Police for the murder of her daughter, Sheena Bora. She was arrested after her former driver, Shyamvar Rai, spoke about his involvement in the murder of his former employer’s daughter, Sheena Bora, on April 24, 2012.

The police claimed that Sheena Bora was Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship, and her body was buried in a village in the Raigad district. While the body was found in a decomposed state in May 2012, it remained unidentified till Rai’s alleged disclosure in 2015. The case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in September 2015 who also booked Peter Mukerjea, the then-husband of Indrani Mukerjea. The agency claimed that the couple was unhappy with Sheena Bora’s relationship with Rahul, Peter Mukerjea’s son from his previous marriage.

However, Indrani has maintained her innocence, claiming in a bare-all memoir that the person she is accused of killing is “alive and out there”.
