‘We don’t call him dad’: Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi reveals he calls his father ‘Mithun’ as per his instructions
Namashi also opened up on how Mithun started spending time with family from the year 2001, the year of his decline.

Namashi Chakraborty, the son of actor Mithun Chakraborty, recently opened up about their equation. Namashi, while giving an update on his father’s health, said that Mithun is doing better now. Mithun was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata earlier this year where he was reportedly being treated for Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain.
“When he was unwell, I was worried, but then he scolded me for something and I understood that he is fine now. If I am getting a scolding from him, it means he is doing well,” Namashi told Celebrania Studios in an interview.

He then opened up about his “friendly” equation with his father and how neither him, nor his other siblings Mahaakshay, Dishani and Ushmey, call him “dad”. He shared, “We don’t call him dad. I have been free, I have been very friendly with my parents, we call him by his name. We have a very friendly banter, we call him Mithun. That’s how it’s been forever all four of us. We are all friends.”
When asked how this started in their family, Namashi revealed it was Mithun who asked the kids not to call him ‘papa’. He shared, “Dad started it, he said please don’t call me papa. Just call me Mithun.”

When asked what his fondest memories from his childhood are, Namashi said that he doesn’t have many memories of spending time with his dad until he turned nine.
He said, “I’ll be honest with you, it is also a bit funny. In my childhood, I didn’t see him much because he would do four shifts. I was born in 1992, dad was in his peak era and in 1994 we shifted to Ooty and dad started the hotel business and that’s where he would also shoot. Even there, dad used to do four shifts. So, I used to get to see him in the morning, before we had our breakfast, when he used to get ready, and by the time he would pack-up I was in bed. So I would only get the second Sunday (every month) with him because he would have a holiday. In my childhood I spent most of my time with my mother.”
Namashi continued, “Fond memories with my father started after 2001 when he started taking up less work. He was going through a decline. This is when I knew that yes, this is my father and realised what a great cook he is. He cooks a lot in his free time.”
When the interviewer asked him what Mithun likes to cook, Namashi replied, “Chicken, mutton, fish, dal, sabzi, roti, rice, everything… he loves food, for his success is in what he eats, hits come and go, but if you eat good food your taste buds are happy, you’ve had a good day. That’s how he equates his life.” Namashi made his acting debut in 2023 with the film Bad Boy, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
