Waheeda Rehman recalls when a director packed up after she refused to wear revealing costume, Dev Anand supported her: ‘He was furious’

Waheeda Rehman recalled the time when director Raj Khosla got very upset with her as she refused to wear the clothes he had picked out.

Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman made her debut in the movies with the Dev Anand film CID. Soon after the release of this film, she was signed for Solva Saal with Dev and this film too was directed by CID director Raj Khosla. In a recent interview, Waheeda recalled that during the shoot of this film, she refused to wear the clothes that the director had picked out for her and this made him furious. But, in the midst of all this, Dev Anand stood by her and supported her since she was a newcomer at the time.

In a chat with Radio Nasha, Waheeda Rehman recalled that Solva Saal had a scene where her character’s clothes get wet and she is supposed to change. “I was given a costume that I did not want to wear. The director said if you are not comfortable then don’t wear it but when you come on the set, you should be happy. So when I came on the set, I wore what made me comfortable,” she recalled and added that this made the director “angry.”

“The director was furious. He said this your second or third movie, and it will be your last one because you have too many conditions,” she shared and added, “The director was so angry that he packed up for the day.” Waheeda did not budge and stood her ground. Dev Anand, who was also present on the set, did not say anything when all of this went down but after pack up, he spoke to the director and supported Waheeda.

She shared, “Dev was sweet. He took my side. He told the director that what she is saying is absolutely right. Her character is a shy girl. Her name in the movie is Lajwanti. She shouldn’t be wearing revealing clothes in this scene. What she was saying was right and you got angry for no reason.”

Waheeda said that after this incident, she knew that Dev was in her corner and she knew that he was the person who could help her out whenever there was a problem. “I was very relived that Dev was in my corner. I was so happy that after that day, I felt like whenever there would be a problem, I would go to Dev and he would sort it out,” she said.
