Vishal Bharadwaj broke Naseeruddin Shah’s nose in a cricket match, Gulzar then did the same to Naseeruddin’s son: ‘You both are behind my family’
Filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj recalled how he once broke actor Naseeruddin Shah’s nose while playing cricket.

Filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj took a trip down the memory lane and recalled how he once broke Naseeruddin Shah’s nose while playing cricket. Surprisingly, lyricist Gulzar broke Naseeruddin’s son Imaad’s nose the very next day.
On Unfiltered with Samdish, the director said, “We used to play serious cricket. He (Naseeruddin) was a keeper that day, I don’t know why he was keeping. He used to bat and bowl. I was a star bowler and I used to put a faster one in between.” Vishal then explained that when he was going to bowl a faster ball, he would alert the keeper by saying ‘Afzal bhai ready?’ However, on that particular day, Naseeruddin did not hear his warning and when Vishal bowled a faster ball, it went straight and hit the actor’s nose.
Vishal added, “Naseeruddin Shah fell down. The white shirt he was wearing had turned into red. They were taking him out and he was continuously abusing me. He said, ‘I have a shoot tomorrow.’ He was speaking in anger. They applied ice and then he was fine.”
Vishal Bharadwaj also shared what happened the next day when Gulzar went to play tennis in Khar after a gap of 30 years.
Vishal said, “The next day at 9 am, Naseeruddin called me and I thought he would shout at me again. He said, ‘Do you and Gulzar saab have any sort of problem?’ I asked, ‘What happened?’ He said, ‘You both are behind my family.’ Then he said, ‘Gulzar saab went to Khar today and he threw a ball and broke Imaad’s nose.'”
