Visfot producer reacts to films re-releasing in theatres: ‘We are in desperate times, theatres have no material’

Visfot producer Sanjay Gupta claimed theatres are lacking material, but re-releases are not really making any huge difference in the collection.

In the past few months, several films have re-released at the box office and many others are slated to release this week. The producer of Visfot, Sanjay Gupta recently talked about the trend and revealed it is all because theatres have no material. However, he claimed these re-releases are not making a huge difference.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sanjay Gupta said, “I don’t think even re-release of films makes a huge difference. The numbers are really negligible and a lot of time has passed. So a lot of films that came in the millennial years and the audience in their 20s today, were just born so they are just catching up on that cinema. But the stars are the same and they look the same. However, I don’t think there is any brand loyalty for something like for a Sholay, we had. We are in desperate times now because the theaters have no material. They are trying everything, even the exhibitors are trying everything.”

When asked why did he not consider releasing Visfot on the big screen if theatres lacked material. He said, “Once Visfot was ready, we watched it our first reaction was that it is supposed to be a big screen film. This deserves to be in the theaters. But it was always considered, conceived, executed, contracted for direct to OTT. So, we never really questioned if it was supposed to be in theaters.”

In the past few months, Rockstar, Laila Majnu, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, and Gangs of Wasseypur series re-released in theatres. Rockstar, which originally released in 2011, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, re-released on over just 8 shows. However, due to high demand, the film eventually had a total of 9000+ shows, earning Rs 7.5 crore gross, according to Sacnilk. Previously, it had earned Rs 110 crore.

Similarly, Triptii Dimri’s Laila Majnu (2018), re-released in August and earned nearly two times more than its original run, approximately Rs 6.15 crore.

Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein (2001) re-released on August 30, and is still running in theatres. More films including Tummbad and Veer Zara are set to re-release on September 13.
