Vindu Dara Singh, son of late actor Dara Singh known for playing Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar's television show Ramayan, has criticised the portrayal of the character in Om Raut's Adipurush. In the film, actor Devdatta Nage played the role of Hanuman. Vindu, in a recent interview, said that the actor couldn't "even talk in proper Hindi." He told Hindustan Times, "They have made him into something else with the dialogues given to him. Maybe they were targeting the younger generation, who watch Marvel movies such as Thor. And they have failed terribly," he said. Hanuman's dialogues in the film were widely criticised and even though the makers revised the dialogues of the film after the first weekend, the damage was done as the film could never successfully recover at the box office. Vindu remembered his late father's performance in the television show and said that "nobody ever can recreate what he did. He made history." Calling the efforts of Adipurush makers "shameful", Vindu added that they "can't touch my father’s legacy. They can't even measure up to Hanuman's tail. They are not even close." Vindu further said that the makers had a "golden chance" to make a film based on Ramayan with a huge budget but they "ruined it." "I don’t know if they were drugged out or what were they thinking?" he wondered and added, "The world knows that Ravan's Lanka was made of gold, and they have made it with black-stone. Don't even get me started on the Ravan's ten-heads scene. They have introduced dragons in the story. They have just played with the story by doing funny things. It is disappointing." Vindu has also played the role of Hanuman a few times on television and on the stage. In a previous chat with KoiMoi, Vindu said, "I've also done Hanuman 10-12 times in my life. He told me 'Vindu you should never touch non-veg when you shoot. Don't have any bad thought in your mind when you are working on Hanuman'. He used to tell me to think only good and positive things, nothing wrong." Vindu has played the role of Hanuman in TV shows like Jai Veer Hanuman, Vishnu Puran, Ayodhya Ki Ramleela amongst others.
