Vikrant Massey says people rooting for him to win National Award for 12th Fail ‘surreal’: ‘I’d be lying if I say I never aspired for it’

One of the biggest success stories of last year was a film about a man who failed. And now, the actor who played the man on screen hopes to get the biggest honour possible — the National Award. Actor Vikrant Massey says he is aware of people wanting him to bag the National Award for his performance in the 2023 acclaimed hit 12th Fail.

Based on a book by Anurag Pathak, 12th Fail chronicled the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty to become an IPS officer. The film put the spotlight on his journey and how his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, was instrumental in his rise. The film was a surprise hit of 2023 and raked in an impressive Rs 69 cr global box office, after an opening of Rs 1 cr.

“It feels very surreal, honestly,” Vikrant told Indianexpress.com about a hopeful National Award win for the Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial which won over the critics and audiences and got Vikrant the most glowing reception of his career.

“I’d be lying if I said I never aspired for this. I have always aspired to stand in the Rashtrapati Bhawan, being honoured by the President of our country has been my lifelong dream. But that dream is yet to realise.

“I love the support, the chatter that is happening online. People are rooting for me. But then having said that… I mean, it is a surreal feeling. Main kya he bol sakta hu ab!” the actor said and blushed.

Vikrant Massey will be next seen in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, co-starring Taapsee Pannu and Sunny Kaushal. The romantic thriller, a sequel to the 2020 film, is directed by Jayprad Desai and is set to release on Netflix on August 9.
