Vijay Varma has proven himself time and again with strong performances in a series of acclaimed projects. With his roles in Gully Boy, Mirzapur, Lust Stories 2, and Darlings, among others, the actor has successfully showcased his versatility. But another aspect of his life that attracts attention is his relationship with Tamannaah Bhatia. In a recent interview, the actor revealed why they chose to go public with their romance, and answered if conversations around his personal life have overshadowed his work.
When asked if he hesitated before going public with their relationship, the actor told Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube channel, “I think we were both aligned on the fact that if we like to spend time together and if we like each other, then there is no need to hide this. It takes a lot of effort to hide a relationship. You cannot go out together, your friends cannot click your photos. I don’t like such restrictions. It wasn’t like I wanted to be out there, but I just didn’t want to be caged. I didn’t want to cage my feelings.”
He said that despite the world knowing about the two of them being together, there are several aspects of their relationship that still remain private. “I have over 5000 photos of both of us, but that’s nowhere on social media, because that’s for the both of us.”
When asked if it bothers him that his relationship sometimes overshadows his work, Vijay said, “Today, in our society, everybody is interested in other people’s lives. Sabke andar ek bua baithi hai who only wants to discuss this (relationships). This has become a disease, and you can’t do anything about it. I can’t change that. As far as my work is concerned, I do receive appreciation for my work after they release. I cannot deny that.”
Tamannaah Bhatia and Vijay Varma confirmed their relationship around the time of the release of Lust Stories 2 in 2023. It was their first collaboration together. The rumours of them dating sparked after the duo was spotted celebrating New Years together in Goa, months before the release of Lust Stories 2.
In an interview with Film Companion, Tamannaah said, “He (Vijay Varma) is someone with who I bonded very organically. He is someone who really came to me with all his guard down, then it became really easy for me to let all my guard down. With high-achieving women, we have this one problem. we think we need to do hard work for everything. You don’t have to walk on eggshells. To just be yourself. It is friendship that is such a crucial part of someone you can laugh with. Someone you can laugh with about anything like the loudest volume, where you sound like different…animals. He is a person whom I care about deeply. He is my happy place.”
On the work front, Vijay is all set to feature in Anubhav Sinha’s debut web series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, also starring Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Dia Mirza, Arvind Swamy, and Patralekhaa. The show will stream on Netflix from August 29. Tamannaah was last seen performing a cameo in Stree 2.
