Vidhu Vinod Chopra ‘yelled’ at Sonali Kulkarni after she complained about being ignored on set for two days: ‘Tu pagal hai kya?’
Sonali Kulkarni recently recalled working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra on the 2000 film Mission Kashmir. She shared that the director is extremely short-tempered.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra, known for making films such as Parinda and 12th Fail, among others, is also known for his no-nonsense attitude. Recently, actor Sonali Kulkarni, who worked with him on his 2000 film Mission Kashmir, starring Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, and Preity Zinta, recalled an argument that she had with the director after she was kept waiting for two days.
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, Sonali Kulkarni shared her experience of working with the 12th Fail director, and said, “One time he yelled at me really bad. We were shooting in Srinagar in October. During this time, we stayed in the Nehru guest house. It was extremely cold then, and I even got fever. For two days, they didn’t shoot even a single scene with me. We used to have meetings everyday. So, during one of those meetings, I told Vidhu Vinod Chopra, ‘I haven’t shot for two days, can you please send me back?’ He was like, ‘Tu pagal hai? You think I will let you return from here?’ I also yelled back, ‘So, when are you going to shoot my scenes?'”
She added, “At that time, I didn’t have the sense that I was talking to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. My only thought was that if my scenes are not planned, let me go and call me back when you have a plan. I didn’t think much about ticket prices and other things.”
“When he said, ‘Tu pagal hai’, I replied, ‘I am not mad. I know my lines and I know my role.’ After hearing this, Vidhu called someone and told, ‘Feed her something, she has a fever’. Eventually, I shot my scene,” shared the actress.
Sonali recalled that the director was extremely short-tempered. In an interview with Times of India, Vidhu Vinod Chopra once spoke about his anger issues and shared, “I was a very arrogant, difficult, volatile, and violent man.” He even shared that at the Film and Television Institute of India, he used to carry a big knife with him as he was against ragging.
