Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the acclaimed filmmaker known for helming movies like Khamosh, Parinda and 1942: A Love Story, and backing cinematic gems like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots, recently shared some of his professional regrets. In a candid interview with Galatta Plus, Chopra discussed the projects he wishes he could have handled differently and revealed his most significant regret.

Speaking about his 2015 Hollywood film Broken Horses, a remake of Parinda, and how his ego destroyed the film, Chopra confessed, “The film that I regret the most and could have done better is Broken Horses. I had Nicholas Cage to play the role but money didn’t come. My arrogance destroyed that film because I cast it wrongly. Then Paul Dena was to play that role. Jeremy Renner was signed up to play Buddy’s role. But that time Jeremy Renner was not that big. Nobody knew who he was. We became friends. We kept working together. He worked with me on the script  and by the time I came to India, his first movie was released and he became a big star. Everybody changed and I can’t work with stars and stars can’t work with me. Let’s put it that way. So, I didn’t do it, but I regret it.”

Broken Horses was a crime thriller written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It featured Anton Yelchin, Chris Marquette, and Vincent D’Onofrio in the lead roles, with María Valverde, Thomas Jane, and Sean Patrick Flanery in supporting roles. The movie was a joint production by Reliance Entertainment and Vinod Chopra Films. It largely received negative reviews and failed to perform at the box office.

Currently, Chopra is immersed in promoting his latest project, 12th Fail. Based on the novel of the same name by Anurag Pathak, the film stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role.
