Vicky Kaushal, currently immersed in the promotions of his upcoming film The Great Indian Family, shared a comical anecdote about his real-life family. During a conversation on the YouTube channel Curly Tales, Vicky recounted a childhood incident when he accidentally swallowed an iron nail while visiting his extended family in Punjab. He shared how the entire family rallied together to ensure the nail passed naturally from his body, resulting in a humorous tale.

Recounting the incident from his early childhood, Vicky said in Hindi, “There was no electricity in the village at the time and when the light came back on, I swallowed an iron nail. And I am talking about a village where everything shuts down by seven in the evening. I told my mom that I swallowed a nail. Instead of showing affection, she started beating me. They took me to a hospital the next day and got x-rays done. Doctors told them that if this nail doesn’t come out naturally in two-three days, they will have to do an operation.”

Describing how his family reacted to the doctor’s advice and how they managed to navigate this challenging situation, Vicky said, “The word ‘operation’ made my family scared. My whole extended family would come together when we used to go to our village. So, it used to be like a great Indian family with some 25-30 people together. They made it their mission to ensure that the nail comes out naturally from my body. So, they made me eat so many bananas with milk that I would go to relieve myself multiple times in a day. My job was simple, but my aunt took this tough task upon herself to check if I had passed the nail. When she found the nail, she came out dancing from the bathroom. Where else will things like this happen other than an Indian family.”

The Great Indian Family, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, follows Kaushal’s character, Bhajan Kumar, as he grapples with an identity crisis triggered by a letter claiming he was born as a Muslim. The film also features Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Alka Amin in pivotal roles and is set to hit screens on September 22.
