Films can have a box office face-off but it’s the audience that emerges victorious each time, says actor Vicky Kaushal as he addressed the clash between his ambitious Sam Bahadur clashing with Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited Animal.

Both the films will arrive on the big screen on December 1. While Sam Bahadur is directed by Meghna Gulzar and is the biopic of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Animal is helmed by Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

During the trailer launch of Sam Bahadur, which Vicky Kaushal was asked how does he look at the box office clash of the two films, the actor said there’s enough room for two films to breathe and find success.

“On that Friday, we both (Ranbir and I) are going to hand over our films to the audience. So that Friday is going to be the audiences’ day more than our day. Today, we as an industry should give the option of multiple films on the same day to the audience, that’s how we are going to flourish as an industry.

“We have only these many weeks in a year, but we as an industry can’t limit ourselves to making only those many films a year. We will have multiple films and releases on the same day and we want to build an atmosphere where multiple films can work together.”

The actor said his belief in multiple films releasing in the same day and doing good stems from the “strength in the audience” and also the exhibition sector. Today, Vicky said, if films releasing on the same day click with the audience, they will find success irrespective of the clash.

“If the audience resonates with the films, both the films will work. I’m as excited for Animal as anyone else. It should be a great day for the audience, we work for that, not for each other,” Vicky said at the event.

Backed by RSVP, Sam Bahadur also stars Sanya Malhotra as his wife Siloo, and Fatima Sana Shaikh as Indira Gandhi. Neeraj Kabi and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub also star in the film as Jawaharlal Nehru and Yahya Khan.

Sam Manekshaw was the first Indian Army officer to have been promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. He is credited for India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.
