Upasana Singh reveals why she left Kapil Sharma’s show, says she was contractually obligated by the channel
Upasana Singh spoke about her exit from Kapil Sharma's show and shared that she never had a fight with Kapil.

When Kapil Sharma’s comedy show first gained success on Colors in 2013, actor Upasana Singh was a part of his core group. Playing the character of Bua on the show, Upasana quickly became a fan favourite but as Kapil’s show changed its channel from Colors to Sony, Upasana wasn’t a part of the cast anymore. In a recent interview, Upasana revealed that she could not continue as a part of Kapil’s team because of her contractual obligations with the channel.
Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Upasana shared that the show was a big hit for two and a half years but by that point, she had a feeling that her character was reaching a dead end. Upasana said that this wasn’t a reason for her to leave as she had already discussed this with Kapil and it was around the same time that Kapil had a tussle with the channel and he moved his show to Sony. While the rest of his team moved with him, Upasana could not as she had a contract with Colors, and not Kapil’s team.
“After a certain point, there was nothing left for me to do. I told Kapil also. We still have a great relationship. It’s not like we had a fight or anything. I told Kapil that it’s not the same anymore, it’s not as fun. At that time, Kapil was trying to crack the role of main lead. He also said that let me get out of all his, then I will do it. It was during that time that Kapil and Colors had some friction. My contract was with Colors and I did not have a contract with Kapil’s team. So when Kapil moved to Sony, I couldn’t because I had a contract with Colors,” she shared.
Upasana said that the team at Colors replaced Kapil’s show with a show by Krushna Abhishek and she was compelled to be on that show until her contract ended. Upasana recalled that she did not have a pleasant experience on that show as the teams of both Kapil and Krushna’s shows were not seeing eye to eye at that time.
When asked about Kapil and Sunil Grover’s fight during their Australia trip, Upasana said that she wasn’t a member of that group but she could see that their was some tension brewing between the two as the environment on the set had changed already. Talking about Kapil, Upasana recalled, “When someone gets successful, their well wishers aren’t always wishing well for them.” Upasana said that she has always been in touch with Kapil and they still share a great relationship. “If I call him, he will pick up,” she said.
Upasana also shared that she was paid handsomely on the show as she made Rs 75,000 per episode when the show started in 2013. And at that time, she was told that her remuneration would increase if the show does well. When asked if she would still work with Kapil, Upasana said that she would happily do it.
