The Kerala Story actor Adah Sharma offered an explanation for using Tamil while thanking a Twitter user for their comments about the film. In a tweet, she wrote that her father is a Tamilian and her mother is a Malayali, and they let her mix the two languages. Adah is currently busy promoting the controversial film The Kerala Story, which hit theatres on Friday.

Ahead of the film’s release, filmmaker Anand Kumar wished Adah good luck, and congratulated the team for making a ‘courageous film’. Adah responded to Kumar and wrote on Twitter, “From one keralite to another ..romba sandosham ❤️🙏thank u.”

However, a Twitter user pointed out that ‘Romba Sandosham’ is not a Malayalam expression. Their tweet read, “There is a difference between ‘Valare Santhosham’ and ‘Romba Sandosham’. ‘Romba sandosham’ is Tamil, not Malayalam.” Several others also highlighted Adah’s apparent gaffe.

Adah responded to everyone who pointed out her mistake and tweeted a clarification that read, “My dad is a tamilian (he is no more now in body but remains alive in my mind) my mum is a Malayali. They always allowed me to have Tamil words seep into my Malayalam and vice versa with only love for both languages.”

When someone also appreciated her fluency in Marathi, Adah replied, “I had Marathi as a subject in school. Did my schooling in Mumbai.”

Later, Adah also misspelt ‘Kerala’ in one of her tweets which got noticed by Twitter users who asked her to at least spell the name of the state correctly.

The Kerala Story attracted controversy after several prominent people claimed that it misrepresented facts. The trailer of the film suggested that it is based on the story of 32,000 women who were radicalised by terrorists. But the trailer was altered to suggest that the film is based on the story of only three women, after the film attracted backlash. The Kerala Story was released in theaters on Friday, and it earned Rs 7.5 crore.
