In a remarkable turn of events, the critically acclaimed film Tumbbad has maintained its momentum as it enters its second week of re-release, defying typical box office trends. The movie’s re-release has proven to be a resounding success, with a nearly 100% increase in earnings on its second Friday (September 20) compared to Thursday. The cult horror film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, made between Rs 2.5 and Rs 2.75 crore on the eighth day of its return to theatres, marking a 40% jump from its first Friday and a 90% increase from Thursday.

National Cinema Day and the film’s growing positive word-of-mouth reputation have contributed significantly to its surge. Cinemas in major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad reported houseful shows on Friday, indicating a strong demand for the horror-drama. Tumbbad’s first week of re-release has been particularly impressive, with the film raking in approximately Rs 13.15 crore. This impressive figure surpasses its original 2018 lifetime collection of Rs 12.5 crore.

According to trade experts, Tumbbad’s second weekend is projected to reach up to Rs 8 crore nett, surpassing the opening weekend earnings of its second innings. The total collection for Tumbbad’s re-release now stands at approximately Rs 15.75 crore nett. The film’s re-release has proven to be a resounding success, cementing its place as a modern horror classic.

In stark contrast, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s The Buckingham Murders, which also released in cinemas on September 13, has struggled to stay afloat. The film, directed by Hansal Mehta, earned an unimpressive Rs 40 lakh on Thursday (Day 7), bringing its total collection to Rs 7.4 crore nett.
