Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar has been in the theatres for over a week, and it seems like the film will cross the Rs 100 crore nett mark during its second weekend. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 4.77 crore on its second Thursday, taking its nett collection to Rs 92.68 crore. The film’s gross collection now stands Rs 103.75 crore.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar released on Holi, and made Rs 15.73 crore on its opening day. In the subsequent days, the film managed to deliver double-digit figures at the box office, until its first Monday, when the figures drastically fell to Rs 6.05 crore. The film’s second weekend will be a critical one, as it faces competition against Rani Mukerji’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Kapil Sharma’s Zwigato.

Directed by Luv Ranjan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is the only Hindi release after Pathaan that has managed to attract audiences. The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone film has been in the theatres for over 50 days and has crossed Rs 1000 crore mark at the global box office.

Films like Kartik Aaryan-starrer Shehzada and Akshay Kumar-starrer Selfiee failed to attract the audience, and it seemed like the success of Pathaan was a one-off. However, with audiences consistently showing up for Ranbir Kapoor’s film, it looks like the theatres are back in business.

The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar 1.5 stars and called it “boring.” A part of the review read, “The writers of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar clearly didn’t get the memo on brevity being the soul of wit: the film drags on for two hours before it comes to the last twenty minutes, which is when the pace picks up.”
