Triptii Dimri became an overnight sensation after her brief appearance in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s controversial 2023 film Animal. The actor, who is an outsider in the entertainment industry, appeared in films such as Laila Majnu, Qala, and Bulbbul. However, Triptii’s journey wasn’t a cakewalk, as she hadn’t taken any acting classes back then. In a recent interview, she recalled crying multiple times while shooting for Sajid Ali’s Laila Majnu.

While talking to Filmfare, Triptii opened up about taking workshops as she was clueless about acting. “I hadn’t studied acting by then. I had to do workshops with Mukesh Chhabra for 5-6 days and then I was given a nod. Post that, we went to Kashmir and started shooting. I would find myself struggling to understand the language. I didn’t know the meanings DOP and POV – they would keep using those terms, which we use on a daily basis. I was clueless ki ‘Yeh kya baatein chal rahi hain (What is actually going on)’?” she said.

She even started having doubts about her decision to sign the film. She said, “Even in the workshop, Avinash and Sajid sir would be talking about character, depth, back story, and pain. And, I would just be sitting there thinking, ‘Kya pain? Kya baatein kar rahe hain yeh log?Sab upar se jaaraha hai (I wasn’t able to understand anything). I literally used to go home and cry sometimes, thinking, ‘Mai galat toh nahi fass gayi? (Did I make the wrong decision)? Did I make a mistake? I have said yes and I even got selected, I love acting, but I was still scared.”

“This film required a good actor. There were scenes where I had to cry and be Laila. You can’t be Triptii on set. It was difficult to crack those things because I didn’t know anything about the world of acting. I just thought that I have to go in front of the camera and act, but when I attended the workshops, it didn’t feel like a piece of cake,” Triptii shared.

She went on to reveal that actor Saurabh Sachdeva, who featured with her in Animal, sent her back home for not being punctual for his workshop. “As soon as the first schedule was over, I went to Saurabh sir for his workshop. And again, I was late on my first day there. He was sitting outside and he said, ‘The workshop’s time was this, you are half an hour late’. I told him that there was traffic. He was like, ‘Go, come tomorrow’. He didn’t let me attend because the first thing one needs to learn is discipline. I stood there for a bit thinking that he might let me in, but that didn’t happen,” she said.
