Sudipto Sen’s latest release, The Kerala Story is swiftly making its place in the list of top grossers of the year 2023. The film, which started on a controversial note, began its second week in the cinema halls on a high. Its box office collection on a second Monday is almost at par with its first Monday, which is quite a feat for the film. Soon, the film will be the second highest-earning Bollywood film of 2023 after Pathaan. It is just a few crores away from taking over the second spot from Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.

The industry tracker Sacnilk reported that The Kerala Story has earned Rs 10 cr (early estimates) on its second Monday, bringing the film’s total collection to approximately Rs 146.74 cr. Even the film’s second weekend was better than its first weekend at the ticket counters. It earned Rs 19.50 cr on its second Saturday as against Rs 11.22 crore on its first Saturday. On Sunday it accumulated a collection of Rs 23.75 cr, much higher than last Sunday’s Rs 16.40 cr.

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the box office performance of The Kerala Story is an “eye-opener” for the film industry, which has failed to deliver hits in the first five months of the year. Only Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan managed to create hysteria at the box office. It started the year on a bang by earning Rs 543.05 cr during its lifetime. Though Ranbir’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar didn’t find the same sort of success as Pathaan, it managed a decent footfall and earned Rs 149.05 cr.

Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa, Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee, and Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada, all failed to bring in money to the industry.

The Kerala Story actor Adah Sharma is overwhelmed with all the love coming her way after the film’s release. She recently told ANI, “Every film I do, I think that it will be my last because I don’t know if I will get another chance or if someone would show faith in me again. But I believe the audience always had bigger dreams for me. They would say that Adah should have been given this or that role… and now, I think all those dreams have come true. I am so lucky.”
