Actor Kangana Ranaut’s latest aerial actioner Tejas refused to take off and after a poor weekend run at the box office, completely dismantled on Monday as it recorded shockingly dismissal collections. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film netted Rs 50 lakhs on its first Monday.

The film had a disastrous opening of merely Rs 1.25 cr and followed it up with virtually no growth the next two days with collections in the same range. With Monday’s collections, Tejas’ total now stands at Rs 4.25 cr.

The film’s fate has now been sealed as it’ll end its lifetime run in single digit only making it one of the biggest box office duds in recent years. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the occupancy of Tejas was poor even on Sunday with only “10-12 people” on an average in every show. From Monday, almost 50 percent of its shows were discontinued.

The report quoted Bihar based exhibitor Vishek Chauhan, who revealed that for the first time this year the morning show in his theatre got cancelled because of “zero” ticket sales. “It’s an unmitigated disaster,” he said.

Though Kangana Ranaut has managed to stay relevant in the news over the years, box office has been a different story as her last hit was the 2015 release Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which was dubbed as a blockbuster. Since then, barring her 2019 release Manikarnika–which trade tracker Box Office India dubbed an average grosser–all her Hindi films, a total of nine, have been flops.

Tejas, however, has done twice the amount of business than her own last release Dhaakad, which had ended its run at Rs 2.58 cr. Kangana will pin her hopes on her next release Emergency, which is scheduled to release next year.
