Tanishaa Mukerji answers if she was fighting with Kajol in viral Durga puja video: ‘We are sisters, we were just teasing’

Tanishaa Mukerji made her debut in the movies in the early 2000s and actually got people’s attention when she appeared with Uday Chopra in YRF’s Neal ‘n’ Nikki but, despite a lot of support from her family, Tanishaa did not make it in the movies as a leading movie star. Tanishaa is the daughter of actor Tanuja, and sister of actor Kajol, who is married to actor-producer Ajay Devgn. In a recent interview, when Tanishaa was asked if Ajay or Kajol ever helped her in her career, Tanishaa asked why would anyone do that.

In a chat with the YouTube channel The Sameep Ved, when she was asked if they ever guided her in the movies, she said, “No, why will they do that? Why would anybody do that? Everybody has a right to make their own choices in life and I think my family is very progressive, in the way that they are very independent, self contained human beings. They don’t feel the need to control somebody in their family or control somebody else. I would never presume to tell Kajol what she should do or tell Ajay what he should do. And I don’t think they would presume because it’s your life, you have to live with the consequences of your life.”

Tanishaa was also asked about her relationship with her sister, with regard to a much-circulated Durga Puja video where it looked like the two sisters were in the middle of a fight. Tanishaa said that this was normal as they sometimes tend to tease each other. “We are siblings. We were not fighting. We were just tana maro-ing each other which is a normal. We were just teasing and playing. We didn’t think twice about it because it was a private situation. We were in our private Durga Puja, the media had come from outside. They should also respect our privacy,” she said.

Tanishaa was then asked about the three qualities that she does not like about her sister and she said, “That she fights with me. That she has this amazing ability to just shut me down sometimes, like when I am trying to be really smart and all and then she will just like one comment will come and she will shut me down. I hate that, very irritating. And she is always trying to be Mom’s favourite but I am mom’s favourite.”
