The alleged spat between actor Deepika Padukone and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga regarding his film Spirit has resulted in a whole lot of cryptic back and forth between the two. Although neither of them has explicitly said each other’s name, it has been reported that Deepika’s exit from the film has ruffled a lot of feathers. Amid all of this, a video featuring Deepika from the promotions of her 2020 film Chhapaak has been doing the rounds of the internet. The video has Deepika clapping back at a journalist who implied that her husband Ranveer Singh’s money was also invested in the film. Netizens noticed that actor Tamannaah Bhatia ‘liked’ the post, thus implying that she was supporting Deepika in the debate.

The video was shared with the text, “Propaganda she is not falling for: Disrespect, men, sexism, gender pay gap, working overtime, unprofessionalism, misogyny, double standards.” However, Tamannaah has now shared a post on her Instagram Stories insisting that she did not ‘like’ the post, but the algorithm did it on its own. “Can Instagram pls figure out how it likes pages on its own, cause random people are making this news and I really have work to do,” she shared.

This is the second time in the recent past when a celebrity has blamed the Instagram algorithm for ‘liking’ a post on its own. Previously, cricketer Virat Kohli also said something similar when fans saw he had liked a post featuring Avneet Kaur. Virat’s statement read, “I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”

The controversy began after Sandeep Reddy Vanga shared a note on X where he spoke about “dirty PR games” being played by an unnamed actor. He claimed that he had narrated the story of his film to the actor and they had leaked the story of his film. He also alleged, “Putting down a younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for?” Triptii Dimri was announced as the leading lady of Spirit after news of Deepika exiting the film started doing the rounds. It was previously reported that Deepika had quit the film after the makers refused to give her the fee she quoted, and did not accommodate her working hours.

Deepika made an international appearance days after this controversy and in a chat with Harper’s Bazaar, she spoke about collaborating with people who can create a good environment on set. She said, “I just listen to my gut, what feels right. I think it’s easier said and done. But, when you shut out the noise around you, and you listen to just your gut, I think the answers are always there. Wanting to collaborate with people that I know I am gonna have good time working with. Being surrounded by family and friends and being authentic is how I think am able to find my balance.”
