Sunny Deol says Border 2 was being made earlier, but was shelved when his films flopped: ‘They were scared to make it, now talks are on’
Sunny Deol shares an update regarding rumours that the makers were keen to make Border 2, after the historic success of Gadar 2.
Is Border 2 on cards? Sunny Deol spills the beans. Nothing turns the tide faster than success. Actor Sunny Deol, currently riding on the big wave of Gadar 2, says there are talks happening for the sequel to his blockbuster war drama Border, which was put on the backburner earlier during his low phase.
Directed by JP Dutta, the 1997 war drama was set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and featured an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff and Akshaye Khanna among others. Recently, there were rumours that the makers were keen to make Border 2, after the historic success of Gadar 2.
In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, when asked they have heard Border 2 is in the making, Sunny Deol laughed and said, “Even I have heard!” The actor added, “We wanted to do this even earlier. I remember in 2015… But then my film didn’t work. So log ghabra ke nahi banana chah rahe the (People were scared to make it). Now everyone wants to make that!”
When mentioned that his fans have been asking for sequels of his popular films, from Border to Arjun, Sunny said he is aware of that as the characters were memorable and have stood the test of time.
“These were fantastic characters. Today, even when I watch films and love a character, I want to see an extension of it. So, of course, you are tempted to do that (make sequels) but for that one must have a solid story, so that it justifies it. When people go to watch the film, they should have the same fun as they did when they went to watch Gadar 2.”
The actor, however, said a sequel to Border should not be made for the sake of it, instead, it should be touched only when there is a story to tell. “The intention shouldn’t be to just make Border 2 but to first tell a good story. Let’s see. Baat bohot kar rahe hai (the talks are on). But I will first hear it and if I feel it has any substance, I will obviously do it. But woh baat aani chahiye, because I am very instinctive,” he added.
Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, is marching towards the Rs 500 crore mark, to become only the second Hindi film to do so after Pathaan. The movie has so far minted Rs 465 crore at the Indian box office.
