It’s going to be a month since Gadar 2‘s release, and the Sunny Deol film continues to draw audiences to the theatre. The actor saw a hit after 22 years and as it made new records, reports started doing rounds of Sunny hiking his fees to Rs 50 crore. As he graced the Aap Ki Adalat stage, the actor dismissed the same, and mentioned how he doesn’t take up films for money.

As Rajat Sharma questioned Sunny Deol about his increase in fees, the actor laughed to say, “Paise kya lene hai nahi lene hai, woh to producer.. wahi dega jitna usse pata hai woh bana sakta hai (The producer will decide how much they want to pay an actor, depending on how much they earn). An actor would also charge according to [how much he can help the film earn].”

Referring to Gadar 2’s success, the host added that one would deserve Rs 50 crore as fees if a film earns Rs 500 crore. To this, Sunny said, “If the producer feels they can pay me that much, then I am okay with it. Main yeh nahi kahunga ke nahi main nahi karunga, mujhe itna nahi mila (I won’t say no to projects because I am not paid a certain amount). That’s not how I work. I like to be in a position where I don’t become a burden to a project.”

Sunny Deol also spoke about the success of Gadar 2 and how he did not expect it to become such a big success. He said that when the first part came, it was a different world, with no social media, and it was an organic love of fans. “But we had that gut feeling that it would click. In those days, we did not use to go out for promotions,” he shared. The actor added that he and director Anil Sharma indulged in a brainstorming session to finalise the story.

The actor said, “It got delayed because of the Covid pandemic. And then when he told me about this idea, I liked it and from then onwards, work began. I had this confidence that the people who liked Gadar, will like this sequel too. I knew, either the movie would not click, or if it clicked, it would give the movie its due izzat (respect). This movie kept its honour.”

Gadar 2’s box office report

Following the release of Jawan, Gadar 2 dropped from the second position to the third spot in the list of the highest Hindi openers of 2023. Jawan now leads the pack with Rs 75 crores, followed by Pathaan at Rs 57 crores, and Gadar 2 at Rs 40 crores.

Its performance also started to decline with the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s actioner on September 7. Gadar 2 saw a slight uptick in its numbers on the 30th day, collecting Rs 1.45 crore after earning Rs 90 lakhs on day 29. The nett domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 512.35 crore.
