Actor Sunil Grover might have gained popularity after playing some unforgettable characters like Guthii, Dr Mashhoor Gulati on Indian television, but he started his acting career in 1998 with the Anees Bazmee’s Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. Grover, in a new interview, narrated the story behind him being cast in the film.
In Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Grover played the role of a barber named Totaram. In a comic sequence, he accidentally shaves off Ajay Devgn’s moustache.
The romantic comedy featured Ajay Devgn and Kajol in the lead roles. Om Puri, Vijay Anand, Reema Lagoo and Tiku Talsania, among others, were seen in the supporting roles.
During the interview, Grover also revealed learning the intricacies of doing comedy from the legendary comedian Jaspal Bhatti. He said, “I went for an audition to Jaspal Bhatti after which he gave me a small role, then he gave me other small roles, and then I started doing shows with him. It is from there I understood humour. Before that, I was just doing mimicry and doing random stuff to make people laugh.”
Sunil Grover became a household name after starring in shows like Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. After quitting The Kapil Sharma Show, the actor-comedian focussed on his acting career. He starred in web shows, Sunflower and Tandav. Recently, his film United Kacche, started streaming on ZEE5.
