Sukhwinder Singh says he sang Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dard-E-Disco’ barefoot: ‘The reason behind this was…’
Sukhwinder Singh said that he met Vishal-Shekhar and Shah Rukh Khan at a party, and they recorded a song together shortly afterwards.

The 2007 film Om Shanti Om, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, was a blockbuster hit. One of the most memorable songs from the film was SRK’s dance number Dard-E-Disco. The singer of the song Sukhwinder Singh has now revealed that composers Vishal-Shekhar approached him for the track and sealed the deal in just 10 minutes.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Singh recalled, “I was at a party and they entered. I told them ‘It’s been a long gap since we collaborated, let’s do a song.’ They said ‘wait for 10 minutes’. Shah Rukh was also at the party. Then they asked me ‘how is your mood,’ I asked ‘what,’ they said, ‘let’s go, Dard-E-Disco.’”
The singer then revealed that he recorded the song barefoot because he wanted to dance as he sang. He said, “I told my recordist to adjust two mics. It was the first time in my career that I removed my shoes and recorded a song. The reason behind this was that I was in a mood to dance. I didn’t want the sound of footsteps while recording. The song is a first of its kind, it is true to its melody but is a club song.”
In the book ‘The Making Of Om Shanti Om’ written by Mushtaq Shaikh, he revealed that when Farah Khan requested Shah Rukh to go shirtless in the song Dard-E-Disco, SRK initially declined, insisting on having six-pack abs first. “Every week, Farah would strip Shah Rukh to do an ab check,” he wrote. The writer added, “The effect on the female members of the crew was very distracting with some of them having to be dragged off the set while the song was being shot.”
Dard-E-Disco was sung by Singh, Marianne D’Cruz, Nisha Mascarenhas, Caralisa and composed by Vishal and Shekhar. The lyrics were by Javed Akhtar.
