Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi’s son, Aaryaman Sethi, shared a special vlog on his YouTube channel, marking the 95th birthday of his grandmother. The family threw a huge party for her, with all her friends present. They also called in special chefs to prepare street food for the guests, and decorated their house with a large flower arrangement. The party was also attended by dozens of family members, as well as Aaryamann’s bride-to-be, Yogita Bihani.
Archana introduced Yogita to the guests, including Pankaj Tripathi’s mother-in-law. Pankaj Tripathi and his family are Archana and Parmeet’s neighbours in Madh Island. His mother-in-law blessed Yogita, and promised that she would attend her wedding and play the ‘dholak’ in celebration. Archana gave her some food to take home to Pankaj. Aaryamann spent the entire day vlogging, and even shaved off the scruffy beard that he had grown. He said that he’d been told to keep his beard for a role that he’d auditioned for, which he saw as a good sign.
But when he asked permission from the director to shave his beard, he was told that he could. “Maybe they aren’t interested in me anymore,” he said, while Parmeet told him to not jinx it. He was overjoyed when Yogita joined them in the evening, and she immediately blended in with the guests. Yogita also organised Housie with the family towards the end of the party, while Archana’s staff enjoyed the street food.
While Aaryamann’s channel has now crossed the 1.5 lakh mark, his mother’s channel is closing in on the one million mark. The family recently appeared in a collab video with YouTuber Sourav Joshi and his family. Sourav also shares family vlogs on his channel, and is one of the most popular YouTubers of the country, with 35 million subscribers. In a sign of how different the fanbase for both families is, the top-rated comment on Aaryamann’s vlog revealed that people are just now discovering who Parmeet Sethi is. “New fans of Parmeet Ji, saw him in Saurav Joshi vlogs, humility to the core,” the comment read.
YouTube vlogs are often more popular than Bollywood films. In fact, Yogita herself admitted that she is recognised more as Aaryamann’s girlfriend than for her supporting role in the blockbuster film The Kerala Story. “Acting se koi nahi pehchan raha mujhe, vlogging se pehchaan rahe hai sab log (Nobody is recognising me for my acting, they only know me for your vlogs),” she said after an interaction she had with some fans at the airport.
Parmeet spoke about how YouTube has changed their lives in an interview with SCREEN. He said, “It makes me happy that millions of people are watching us. We were not expecting it – socha tha 20-25K views ajayenge and now it’s in millions. We all are very grateful. It’s like a second career for me. Archana, I and the kids have started taking it seriously. Maybe it is the plan B which is coming good.”
