Sonakshi Sinha ‘not converting’ to Islam, will marry Zaheer Iqbal under Special Marriage Act, says groom’s father Iqbal Ratansi
Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal will reportedly get married at the latter's residence in the presence of the marriage registrar.

Actors Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal are set to get married on June 23 in a civil ceremony, neither in accordance with Hindu rituals nor Muslim customs. According to reports, the couple will get married as per the Special Marriage Act, 1954, and have reportedly given the mandatory one-month notice to the marriage registrar. A Free Press Journal report stated that the wedding could be held at the groom’s residence in the presence of the registrar, where the couple would complete the legal formalities.
Talking to the publication, the groom’s father Iqbal Ratansi said, “It will have neither Hindu or Muslim rituals. It will be a civil marriage.” He also rubbished reports that Sonakshi would be converting to Islam to marry Zaheer. “She is not converting and that is for sure. Theirs is a union of hearts and religion has no role to play whatsoever. I believe in humanity. God is called Bhagwan by Hindus and Allah by Muslims. But at the end of the day, we are all human beings. My blessings are with Zaheer and Sonakshi,” Zaheer’s father said.
After their registered marriage, the couple will host a party at the celeb-favourite restaurant Bastian in Mumbai. Recently, the couple hosted a party for friends and family. The celebration saw Sonakshi’s parents, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, also in attendance.
Earlier, it was reported that Shatrughan Sinha was not happy about the union, and was unlikely to attend the marriage ceremony. The gossip took steam when Shatrughan told Times Now that he was “waiting to be informed” about his daughter’s wedding, and added, “All I can say is, aaj kal ke bachche consent nahin lete maa-baap ke, sirf inform karte hain (Nowadays, children don’t seek permission; they simply inform their parents).”
Later, however, he shut down the rumours of a rift in the family and said he would be present at the wedding. “I will be there at the wedding, certainly. Why shouldn’t I and why won’t I? Her happiness is my happiness and vice versa. She has every right to choose her partner and the other details of her wedding,” he told Zoom, and added that Sonakshi and Zaheer “look very nice together.”
Zaheer made his film debut with the Salman Khan-backed drama Notebook. According to reports, Zaheer and Sonakshi met each other at a party hosted by Salman, who had also launched the career of Sonakshi with his blockbuster Dabangg. The couple worked in the 2022 comedy drama Double XL, co-starring Sonakshi’s friend Huma Qureshi.
