‘I was shocked when Salman Khan picked me up’: Himani Shivpuri recalls actor’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun improvisation
Himani Shivpuri essayed the role of Salman Khan's aunt in 1994 hit Hum Aapke Hain Koun. In her entry scene in the movie, Salman picked her up in his arms.

Stories from the set of Sooraj Barjatya’s evergreen classic Hum Aapke Hain Koun make for good nostalgia, especially if they are about the film’s lead actor Salman Khan. During the shoot of the film, Salman swept veteran actor Himani Shivpuri off the floor, literally, without prior notice, which left her stunned. Shivpuri found Salman to be a ‘prankster’ just like Anupam Kher who too was quite ‘naughty’ while filming the family drama.
During one of her interviews with Rajshri, Shivpuri recalled her introduction scene in the movie. Calling Salman a ‘prankster’, she said, “I was doing my first scene in the movie and he made an entry. The moment he came, he shouted ‘Chachi jaan’ and picked me up in his arms. I was taken aback because we drama people always rehearse everything, so it was unexpected.” However, the actress played along and the scene made it to the final cut of the movie.
Shivpuri added, “But we used to improvise too and I played along. Soorja ji also liked it, so he kept it.” However, the next time when Salman picked her up in another scene in the movie, Shivpuri was well-versed with his plan and was not surprised this time.

She narrated, “Later, in the scene where I announce the birth of Renuka’s baby boy, then also Salman picks me up. But then I was prepared, though it was not a part of the script.”
Shivpuri also recalled having a ‘fun’ time on the set of Hum Aapke Hain Koun where all of them stayed like a family. She shared, “It was always fun to be on the set. The naughtiest one on the set was Anupam Kher. He kept playing pranks and we all used to play dumb charades too, it was just like a family.”
Hum Aapke Hai Koun released in the theaters in 1994. The film was a humongous hit and it continues to enjoy a cult status among the fans of Hindi cinema. The film featured an ensemble cast including actors Renuka Shahane, Mohnish Bahl, Madhuri Dixit, Reema Lagoo, Alok Nath, Satish Shah, Bindu, Dilip Joshi and several others.
