Farah Khan rejected Shilpa Shirodkar for ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ for being ‘fat’: ‘She was 100 kgs, where will Shah Rukh Khan stand?’

Shilpa Shirodkar shared that she was rejected for the Dil Se dance number by Farah Khan because of her body weight. Farah endorsed her story and claimed the actor was '100 kg' at the time.

Shilpa Shirodkar recalled when she was rejected for Chhaiya Chhaiya.

Shilpa Shirodkar, who was recently seen on Bigg Boss 18, was a popular film actor back in the 1990s. Shilpa appeared in films like Hum, Gopi Kishan, Aankhein among others and in a recent interview, she revealed that she was offered the Dil Se song “Chhaiya Chhaiya” but the opportunity was taken away as they said that she was “fat.” Shilpa recalled Farah Khan telling her that she was ineligible for the part.

Shilpa was asked by Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel if she was offered the song and she immediately said yes. “I didn’t get it because I was fat. They just said that I am fat,” she recalled. When asked if she felt about missing the opportunity, she said, “I will always feel bad that I didn’t get ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ but God gave me much more and he is still giving me.”

When asked what she was told at the time by the choreographer of the song, Farah Khan, Shilpa said, “She just said that we will work some other time because they are looking for someone else. ‘You are a little fatter’. Something like this… I don’t even remember anymore. I know I missed it because I was fat.”

Farah corroborated Shilpa’s version of events on her YouTube channel in a chat with Karanveer Mehra. She shared that she actually went to Shilpa for the song but the actor did not look like what she had expected. “I came to Shilpa to ask her for ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’. But something must have happened to her because at that time, she was at least 100 kgs. So I thought ‘how will she get on the train?’ And if she gets on, where will Shah Rukh stand?”

The song was also offered to Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty who rejected it for various reasons. Malaika Arora ultimately performed the dance number with Shah Rukh Khan in Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se.
