When Shilpa Shetty said she doesn’t consider herself ‘good looking’, shared she got a nose job because ‘it could be better’
On Shilpa Shetty's 48th birthday, here's a throwback from the time when the actor spoke about her nose surgery and revealed why she did it.

(Photo: Express Archives)Shilpa Shetty made her debut in the movies with the 1993 hit Baazigar and since then, the actor has seen many highs and lows in her career. She got international fame after she won Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and for the last few years, Shilpa has made a name for herself as a social media influencer and television personality. The actor, who turns 48 on Thursday, was always known for her glamorous avatar in the movies and when asked about the same, she said that she is “not apologetic about being glamourous”.
In a chat with Prabhu Chawla on Seedhi Baat during the early 2000s, Shilpa shared that she was being offered the same kind of roles where she did not get much opportunity to act. “I was getting offered the same kind of roles where I would have small role, three songs. When I would ask people ‘What is the role?’, they would say ‘There are 5 scenes but you have 4 songs,'” she said.
When the interviewer asked her about her sustained ‘glamorous image’, Shilpa stood her ground and said, “I am not apologetic for being glamorous. It’s not a bad thing. I think it’s important to look glamorous, to look good when you are a heroine.”
Through the 1990s, Shilpa Shetty gained fame with her many dance numbers. She shared in the chat that she had put in a lot of hard work for Dharmesh Darshan’s 2000 film Dhadkan that gave her a chance to do more than what she was otherwise being offered at the time but since the film was in the making for five years, she was wholly aware that she might suffer from “out of sight and out of mind” so she decided to take up the now-popular dance number “Main Aayi Hoon UP Bihar Lootne” from the film Shool. “It was the right decision,” she said.
In the same interview, Shilpa casually accepted that she had gotten her nose fixed because she believed it “could be better”. In those days, actors would not candidly accept if they had gotten corrective surgeries but Shilpa’s candidness came like a breath of fresh air. “Yes I got my nose fixed. So? I did not do it to make it more beautiful. I did it because I thought it could be better,” she said. Shilpa also spoke about her nose surgery in the Sky One documentary The Real Shilpa Shetty which was aired after she won Celebrity Big Brother.
The Phir Milenge actor said that she doesn’t consider herself to be “good looking” and added, “I’m not under the false impression that I am good looking.” But, she said that she does her bit to stay fit, and it is evident that for Shilpa, her fitness is still her top priority.
