Shekhar Suman, who once slammed Kangana Ranaut for being ‘abusive’ to son, says: ‘She and Adhyayan were happy together’

Shekhar Suman had earlier taken potshots at Kangana Ranaut, calling her 'cocained actress' and for being abusive to son Adhyayan Suman, has now opened up on their relationship and break-up. The two dated each other in 2008.

Kangana Ranaut and Shekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan Suman met on the sets of Mohit Suri’s Raaz – The Mystery Continues and soon began dating each other. The former couple, who was seeing each other in 2008, called it quits after a year of dating. The break-up was ugly as accusations were traded publicly, going to the extent that Kangana practised black magic.

Shekhar, who will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, recently spoke about Kangana and Adhyayan’s relationship, maintaining that there is no bad blood or ill feeling. While speaking to Zoom, the Utsav actor said, “We all go through different phases in life. What appears to be right today, may not appear right tomorrow and vice versa. Nobody wants to have a relationship, break-up and just move on. Every couple wants permanence in their relationship because it is deep and sacred.”

The 61-year-old actor blamed destiny for Adhyayan and Kangana’s failed relationship while stressing that one must look at their past relationships with love. “Destiny has other roles to play and you have to follow destiny. Kangana and Adhyayan were happy when they were together and they went on their ways. It was destined to happen so there is no ill will and inimical feelings towards each other. Sometimes, things happen in the heat of the moment but one should look back with fondness,” shared Shekhar. Quoting, popular poet and lyrics writer Sahir Ludhianvi, he further added, “Woh afsaana jise anjam tak lana na ho mumkin usse is khubsoorat mod de kar chor dena accha (If your love can’t reach a destination, you must leave it at a point when it is still beautiful)”

When asked about his opinion on Kangana joining politics, Shekhar, added,  “We are not hanging on to it – neither the family nor Adhyayan. It was a phase in their life. Who are we to comment and judge? We have gone on our way and everyone is working towards their happiness and contentment. There is no point turning around or pointing fingers or saying ‘this is right’ or ‘this is wrong.”

Following their much-publicised breakup, Shekhar often took a jibe at Kangana on social media, calling her “one cocained actress” on X, formerly Twitter. He also took a potshot at the actor after her film, Simran’ failed at the box office. “Itna hungama ..itna shor sharaba..nateeja?khoda pahad ..nikli chuhiya!” read his tweet, taking a sly dig at Kangana.  He also tweeted about someone with ‘bad mouth, bad English, bad acting, bad behaviour’ after her spat with Karan Johar over nepotism on his show.

Adhyayan had alleged that Kangana was abusive in the relationship and practised  “black magic” on him. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama said that while he was aware of his son’s ‘troubled’ relationship with Kangana, he didn’t interfere. “I was aware of every single moment. But I never talked to Kangana. That’s his battle, he has to fight it. I can only give him the strength to fight that battle. I cannot fight his battles. I can never be that dad who would go and tell the other person, ‘tumne mere bachche ke saath..(why did you wrong my child)’. I think he is man enough and can fight his battles,” he divulged.

He further added that he was never against Adhyayan’s relationship with Kangana and that neither of the two actors is to be blamed for the fallout.  “I think it’s a phase in life; sometimes you succeed in your first relationship, and sometimes you fail,” he said.
