Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore graced the fourth edition of SCREEN Live in New Delhi. Besides talking about her career, films and the state of cinema, Sharmila opened up about her grandson Taimur’s nature and shared an anecdote about her son Saif Ali Khan’s childhood.

During the conversation, Sharmila said that Taimur didn’t gain popularity on the first day itself, but the scenario changed afterwards. “Not on his first day though and then the same person became so popular. Initially, I thought that he was popular in the children’s category, but then I got to know that he was the most popular overall, in every category. Taimur is a really quiet and reserved person. Jeh, on the other hand, is all over the place and very lovely. They are all over the place. They are very different temperamentally,” she shared.

The 70-year-old also opened up her experience of working with child actor Jihan Hodar in Outhouse. “He is wonderful. Working with this boy was amazing; he is a very good actor. You just had to tell him once and he got it right. I am very fond of children. I have lots of friends who have grandchildren and children. They are wonderful; just watching them is fun. They want to say something, but they go about it in a circle. So, you have to really listen to them.”

Sharmila Tagore further recalled an anecdote from her son Saif Ali Khan’s childhood, which taught her a lesson in communicating with kids. “I learnt this when Saif was growing up. Once, he was trying to tell me something and I had interrupted thinking I understood what he was saying and the conversation had gone off on a tangent. You have to really pay attention because they don’t say directly what they want to say. They say it in a very round manner. You can’t give them instant replies,” she said.

Meanwhile, Sharmila Tagore’s Outhouse also stars Mohan Agashe, Sonali Kulkarni and Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles. The film will hit theatres on December 20.
