Late actors Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali’s son Aditya Raj Kapoor is a graduate at the age of 67. Aditya earned a graduate degree in Philosophy via correspondence, and credited his daughter Tulsi for pushing him to pursue his studies.

In a chat with ETimes, Aditya said that he had all the opportunity to study, but he never took advantage of any of them. He said that he started studying at the age of 61 and zeroed down on Philosophy, as he was spiritually inclined towards it. He said that his daughter Tulsi saw him as a retired man who had a lot of time on his hands, and thus pushed him to pursue an online course from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Aditya shared that he missed some of the exams due to the pandemic, but ultimately finished his graduation with 59.67% marks. He added that he has now enrolled in a Masters program as well. “I did this for my mother Geeta Bali,” he said.

Aditya tried his hand at acting, but did not pursue it as a career. “My father was very supportive of my decision. I have always tried to do something different in life and Shammiji always stood beside me,” he said in an earlier chat with IANS.

Aditya was only nine years old when his mother Geeta Bali passed away. He grew up with Shammi Kapoor and his second wife Neila Devi. Neila, on many occasions, has spoken about raising Aditya and his sister Kanchan as her own children, and has said that she decided to not have her own children so she could give them undivided attention. Aditya, in an earlier chat with The Times of India, said, “She decided to not have any children of her own. How many women would do that? And, to look after a crazy guy like Shammi Kapoor and his two kids wasn’t easy, I bet.”
