Actors Shamita Shetty and Raqesh Bapat started their relationship inside the Bigg Boss house. After the show ended in 2021, they continued to dating, but eventually, the two called it quits after a year of dating in 2022. Now, Shamita has opened up about the relationship and explained how she chooses to be an independent working woman who isn’t willing to compromise on her peace.

Speaking to Pinkvilla about her past relationship with Raqesh Bapat, Shamita said, “Please understand, when you’re locked up inside a house for so long, I think it is only natural for you to form such relationships. Because you look for support in your weak moments, you look for that closeness, which is very natural.”

Shamita went on to admit that she wouldn’t have dated Raqesh if they had met outside the house. “It wouldn’t have happened in the outer world because we are both completely different people. It is a chapter that is erased in my life,” she said.

The actress also confessed that she does get lonely being a single woman but is still happy in her own space. “I think that’s natural. Over time, you kinda get used to your ways, and you kinda know what works for you and what doesn’t. You don’t want to compromise it. As an independent working woman, I am not willing to compromise my peace just because you’re lonely sometimes. I think a lot of people get into relationships when they’re lonely. For me, to reach a stage where I became happy on my own, in my own space, it took me a while,” she explained.

Talking about how relationships can be emotionally draining, Shamita further added, “So, till I don’t find someone that I know respects my soul, I will not take it further.”

Shamita made her debut in the Hindi film industry with the Shah Rukh Khan-led multi-starrer Mohabbatein. She later appeared in films like Agnipankh, Wajahh: A Reason to Kill, and Fareb, but none of them were successful at the box office. Her Bollywood career did not take off as expected, and she eventually vanished from the big screen after starring in the 2007 film Cash.
