Shakti Kapoor shares he stopped wife Shivangi from acting as he ‘wanted a housewife’: ‘She sacrificed her career for me’
In a recent interview, Shakti Kapoor opened up about his love story with Shivangi Kolhapure and how she sacrificed her acting career to marry him.

Shakti Kapoor believes it was his wife Shivangi Kolhapure, who brought prosperity in his life. The actor, known for playing a villain in numerous films, recently shared how his wife sacrificed an acting career just because he wanted a housewife. On the Timeout with Ankit podcast, Shakti opened up about his love story and how the couple got married.
The Raja Babu actor shared that his wife was a child artist and they met during the shoot of a film. Shivangi, not many know, is the younger sister of yesteryear star Padmini Kolhapure. Being 12 years younger than him, she met him as a fan and even took photos with him. “Then we met and fell in love. I realised I will not get such a beautiful and homely girl. That’s how we started seeing each other,” Shakti Kapoor said.
The actor, however, said that since he was so deeply falling in love, he was distracted from work. Fearing his relationship might affect his career, he communicated the same to her, and she was furious about it. He added, “People started offering her films and she went ahead and signed Sawan KumarTak’s Laila. Meri halaat kharab hogayi (I was worried), as I was the Majnu in her life.”
The Chalbaaz actor added, “I went to her and begged that don’t work. I want you as a housewife.” They soon got married in a court as their parents hadn’t come around till then. “It’s been 40 years with her. She gave up her career for me. I still fold my hands in front of her. I got married at the peak of my career, and she brought me more luck and prosperity. We then had a son and daughter, and built our own family.”
Shakti Kapoor eloped to get married to Shivangi Kolhapure in 1982. They have a son Siddhant and daughter Shraddha Kapoor, both of whom are actors. In earlier interviews, Shakti had shared how their parents were against their match owing to cultural differences between them. Apart from that, given he played negative roles in films, he was thought to be a similar person in real life. It was only after the birth of their son that Shivangi’s parents accepted them.
