Shah Rukh Khan shot Raees climax seven months apart, reveals Rahul Dholakia: ‘He caught the same character’
Raees director Rahul Dholakia revealed that Shah Rukh Khan shot two continuity scenes seven months apart but never lost the 'sur' of the character.

Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia recently shared fascinating insights into the making of his 2017 film Raees, starring Shah Rukh Khan. In a conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra, Dholakia revealed the impressive extent of SRK’s acting prowess.
Dholakia highlighted a pivotal scene where Shah Rukh Khan’s character is summoned to IPS Majmudar’s (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) police station. Interestingly, the scenes preceding and following this moment were shot seven months apart. Dholakia explained, “When we shot the scene, ‘Majmudar ne aapko bulaya hai’ for which he has to go to Majmudar’s police station, which is in the next scene. Between these two scenes, it was seven months.”
Dholakia expressed admiration for Shah Rukh Khan’s ability to seamlessly pick up where he left off, despite the significant time gap. “The man (SRK) came on set after seven months, in between he shot for Dilwale (Rohit Shetty’s film), he did several other things, we also released the film’s trailer. Even after seven months had passed, he caught the same character, same sur (tone), same emotion. I think only great actors can do that.”
Raees, released in 2017, was a critical and commercial success. The film grossed over Rs 304 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of that year. Set in 1980s Gujarat, Raees tells the story of a bootlegger’s rise to power and his subsequent clash with a determined police officer. The film also became popular as it was Pakistani actress Mahira Khan’s first and the last film in India. The film, backed by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment also starred Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Atul Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha and Jaideep Ahlawat among others.
