Three decades after making his film debut, Shah Rukh Khan finally clinched his first National Film Award for Best Actor this year for his performance in director Atlee Kumar’s Jawan (2023). However, the victory sparked a massive debate as well, with many opining that he didn’t deserve the trophy for the star vehicle, while others expressed happiness over the win, claiming it was long overdue.

On Wednesday, SRK took the stage for the preview launch of The Ba***ds of Bollywood and spoke about his injury. “I injured my shoulder and had a little surgery. It wasn’t that small to be honest; it was a bit big. So it will take me a month or two to recover. Lekin National Award uthane ke liye mera ek haath hi kaafi hain (But to pick up the National Award, one hand is enough for me),” he said, which opened to thunderous applause. SRK sustained the injury while shooting for his upcoming movie King. He also shared that his injury might take two months to heal properly.

He added, “Actually, I can do most things with just one hand. I can eat food, brush, and scratch if my back itches. There is only one thing that I miss when I can’t use both my hands: embracing the love of all of you.”

Recalling when Aryan approached him, expressing the desire to create a show on Bollywood that would be “raw, edgy and a bit mad”, Shah Rukh jokingly wondered, “Is he putting Mannat’s CCTV footage on YouTube?” He mentioned that although it took him a while to catch the tone of the show, he was drawn entirely in once he felt its essence.

In Jawan, SRK starred alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Priyamani, as well as Deepika Padukone in a cameo appearance. SRK played dual roles in Jawan, as Captain Vikram Rathore and his son Azad Rathore. Grossing Rs 1,160 crore worldwide against an estimated budget of Rs 300 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie went on to become the the second highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
