Shah Rukh Khan declares he has quit smoking on his birthday: ‘Mujhe laga tha ki I will not feel so breathless’
At his recent birthday bash, Shah Rukh Khan declared that he has quit smoking. His announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from his fans.

There have been several instances when Shah Rukh Khan pledged to give up the dangerous habit of smoking, but he never actually managed to keep the promise. Nonetheless, at his birthday bash in Mumbai recently, SRK confirmed that he has quit smoking. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from his fans, who were thrilled to hear that their beloved superstar is making healthier choices.
In a viral video from the event, Shah Rukh Khan, 59, said, “The good news is that I’m not smoking anymore, guys.” Reflecting on his choice to quit, the Jawan actor shared that he hopes to experience less breathlessness but is still getting used to the change. “Mujhe laga tha ki I will not feel so breathless, but abhi bhi feel kar raha hu (I thought I wouldn’t feel breathless after quitting smoking, but I still do),” Shah Rukh admitted, recognising the adjustment process. However, he remained hopeful, adding, “Inshallah, woh bhi theek ho jayega” (By God’s grace, that will also be fine).”

Fans were overjoyed by this announcement of Bollywood’s Baadshah. One fan commented, “Best news I’ve heard all day! 😁👍.” Another fan wrote, “Wow that’s a great news.” One more fan wrote, “If true, dua kabul huya.”
In a 2017 interview, King Khan had discussed his plans to quit smoking and drinking to spend more time with his youngest son, AbRam. Speaking at the India Today Conclave, the actor shared, “The presence of a little child at the age of 50, it is a good thing. It makes me come alive, it makes me see innocence and love in a different way. Having said that, will I be there to do the same thing that I did with my older kids? Yes, that is a worry. So that keeps you smoking less, drinking less, exercising more. I am planning to give up all (smoking, drinking, etc) and try to be healthier and happier.”
Many Bollywood actors have previously commented on Shah Rukh’s smoking habit. Earlier, during a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Pradeep Rawat recalled seeing Shah Rukh smoke multiple cigarettes. “One thing I remember vividly is that I haven’t seen any other actor smoke as much as he did. He would light a cigarette, use it to light another, and then light yet another one. He was a true chain smoker. Nonetheless, his dedication to the film was undeniable,” he said.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s King, which will also star his daughter Suhana Khan in a key role.
