SCREEN Launch Highlights: In the biggest event of the year, The Indian Express relaunched its iconic film magazine, SCREEN. India’s most trusted film journalism voice since 1951, SCREEN was reintroduced at a gala event headlined by Shraddha Kapoor. The Stree 2 star unveiled the brand new SCREEN and also became the face of its first-ever digital cover. At the grand event, Shraddha Kapoor was joined by two other celebrated Bollywood figures — filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and actor Vijay Varma. It’s after 11 years that SCREEN is returning to The Indian Express fold.
The gala event, held at Four Seasons Hotel at Worli, Mumbai, kicked off with the digital cover launch. Shraddha then took part in ‘SCREEN Live,’ engaging in a conversation with Jyoti Sharma Bawa, Indian Express Online Entertainment Editor, discussing her life, career and stardom, especially after the success of Stree 2, the horror-comedy that made history at the box office recently. Shraddha’s session also featured a special segment hosted by Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express Group and Head of New Media at The Indian Express. The session culminated with an audience Q&A.
The launch event was followed by our first-of-its-kind ‘Creator x Creator’ session, which was held in front of a live audience for the first time. The special and much-talked-about segment saw Rajkumar Hirani, known for helming acclaimed blockbusters like Munnabhai MBBS, 3 Idiot and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki, engaging in a chat with Vijay Varma, who was recently seen in Netflix’s IC 814. The duo talked about their art, philosophy, process and career. This segment was hosted by Shubhra Gupta, film critic and senior columnist with the Indian Express.
This was Shraddha Kapoor’s first public event with a panel discussion since Stree 2 broke all box office records. Similarly, it was also the first time Rajkumar Hirani shared the stage with Vijay Varma.
SCREEN has been the beacon of Indian entertainment since 1951, establishing itself as the formidable film industry voice. The magazine, which has covered Indian cinema closely over the decades, has now returned in a new avatar with the who’s who of the media and entertainment industry in attendance. The SCREEN launch event will be a new addition to the on-ground activity of The Indian Express, which began its new property earlier this year, Expresso.
With the launch, Indian Express’ entertainment section, which consistently attracts between 20 million and 45 million unique users a month on the website, will now be rebranded as SCREEN and continue to deliver cutting-edge coverage of the Indian film industry.

When I joined the film industry in the late '60s, the SCREEN was a very prominent... What was most attractive for me were the advertisements directors put out for their movies prior to their release. They looked very commanding and attracting. During the launch of SCREEN, Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express Group and Head of New Media at The Indian Express, said: "SCREEN was good film journalism. I think the time has come for us to reflect on what good film journalism is and isn't. Good film journalism is respectful, not servile. Good film journalism understands privacy and celebrates public following. It questions without accusing, critiques, but with an open mind, challenges status-quo while appreciating the journey to achieve success. Good film journalism is always happy to accept a mistake. Good film journalism doesn't want to become friends with the stars. It wants to unpack the star's process, the director's vision, the producer's ambition and the technician's craftsmanship. And most importantly, good film journalism has the integrity to serve the public first. SCREEN will be a renewed attempt at that."
