Chaalbaaz director Pankaj Parashar recently spoke about the bond between actor Sridevi and choreographer Saroj Khan. He recalled an incident during the film’s shoot when the two had a fallout, after which Saroj wrote a letter to Sridevi.

Pankaj recalled that, at first, he found Sridevi to be somewhat arrogant; however, things changed after she watched the film’s first edit. He noted her deep dedication to her craft and her creative instincts, which often came through during song sequences. Recalling one such instance, he shared, “She and Saroj Khan were bum chums. The first song that we were shooting was ‘Bhoot Raja’ with Rajinikanth. They wouldn’t talk to me. What they were used to was the director sitting on the side, while the choreographer and heroine shot the song. And I didn’t want that. I told her, ‘Ma’am, I want to shoot it my way.’ So Sridevi said, ‘Okay, go ahead.'”

Pankaj Parashar also recalled the time Saroj Khan and Sridevi had a fallout, and he had to become the mediator. He said, “Saroj came to my house one day and said, ‘I need a favour.’ She gave me a letter addressed to Sridevi. It read, ‘Dear Sri… we are too close to be fighting… let’s move on.’ I read it out to Sridevi in her van. Believe it or not, she got tears in her eyes and turned away. Then I asked her, ‘Can I bring her over? Will you meet her?’ And she said. ‘Okay.’ I brought Saroj and made sure they were friends again.”

While Sridevi died in 2018, Saroj Khan passed away in 2020.
