Sanjay Kapoor started his acting career with the 1995 film Prem, and soon earned popularity with Raja, which was released just a month later. However, the actor’s instant popularity eventually became difficult to sustain when his films stopped performing. However, he didn’t hang up his boots or agree to do bad films. Instead, to keep his kitchen running, Sanjay got into film production.

Sanjay has produced 2015 film Tevar, starring his nephew Arjun Kapoor, and 2020 film It’s My Life. He recently got back into acting full-time with the emergence of digital platforms, with projects such as Fame Game, Lust Stories, and the recently released Bloody Daddy. In an interview with ETimes, he said, “I had films which didn’t work. I went through a lull where I wasn’t getting very interesting offers. I held back and didn’t sign any riff-raff films. I got into production because mujhe bhi apne khaane-peene ke liye kaam karna tha, bachchon aur biwi ko sambhalne ke liye kaam toh sabko karna padta hai (I had to work to earn my bread, take care of my wife and kids).” The best thing he did, Sanjay said, was to ‘not sell (himself) cheap.”

Talking about finding the right opportunities, Sanjay also spoke about doing Zoya Akhtar’s 2007 film Luck By Chance, in which he was a part of an ensemble cast with Farhan Akhtar as the lead. Sanjay said that because he was accustomed to playing leads, it took a while and a lot of convincing on Zoya’s part to get him to agree to the film.

Sanjay said, “She literally, I can say, chased me to do that film.” However, the actor was confident about the film when he heard the script and looked it as a chance to own the character. Sanjay appears as a villainous character in Bloody Daddy, which was released on JioCinema for free on Friday. The film stars Shahid Kapoor as a man on a violent mission to save a loved one from dreaded gangsters.
