Sandeep Reddy Vanga says Ranbir Kapoor didn’t get criticism for Animal from industry because they want to work with him: ‘I’m not jealous of him’

Sandeep Reddy Vanga said that Ranbir Kapoor was praised for his performance in Animal but he received a lot of criticism for making the film.

Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal was the biggest hit of his career.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s work in Animal and Kabir Singh attracted polarising opinions. In a recent interview, when the director was asked about the criticism from the film industry regarding the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer, he said that everyone was unanimous in their praise for Ranbir and it showed that they were keen to work with him. In a promo for his upcoming interview on Game Changers, Vanga said that he did not understand the disparity when it came to criticisng him, but praising Ranbir for the same film.

“People who criticsed very badly, film related people, everybody said Ranbir was brilliant. I am not jealous of Ranbir but the point is ‘Ranbir was brilliant but writer director was…’ I don’t understand the disparity,” he said and added that it showed that they were all keen to work with Ranbir and thus found it easier to take a shot at the director.

He added, “I understood they want to work with Ranbir. That’s clear because if they say anything to Ranbir… It’s easy to make a comment about me because I am new for this place. A filmmaker will make a film in 2-3 years but an actor will appear five times. So the one with whom you can work more, you won’t say anything about him. That’s true.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed Animal was criticised for its gruesome violence and misogyny, but despite the criticism, the film made over Rs 500 crore at the domestic box office and became the biggest hit of Ranbir and Sandeep’s career. Before Animal, his film Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor, also attracted a lot of criticism for its misogyny.

Vanga is now working with Prabhas on his next film Spirit. He also announced the sequel to Animal titled Animal Park.
