Sameer Wankhede denies leaking Shah Rukh Khan’s chats; says Aryan Khan isn’t a kid: ‘Will do the same if given a chance’
Sameer Wankhede opened up about the alleged smear campaign against him, his leaked chats with Shah Rukh Khan, and allegations of taking a bribe to release Aryan Khan.

In 2021, Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged international drugs racket. Aryan spent 25 days in prison before being granted bail and was later cleared of all charges. Sameer Wankhede, the Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at the time, had led the investigation and arrested Aryan in the case. In a recent interaction, Wankhede opened up about the alleged smear campaign against him, his leaked chats with Shah Rukh Khan, and allegations of taking a bribe to release Aryan.
When asked if he was targeted by the media because he arrested a superstar’s son, Wankhede said in an interview with NEWJ, “I won’t say I was targeted but will say that I have been the most fortunate person because I got a lot of love from people from the middle class, those who aren’t that fortunate. Sometimes I would think that this ordeal is worth it because of all the love I got. They felt that no matter how big someone is, everyone should face the same rules. I don’t have any regrets, I will do the same if given a chance.”
When questioned about Shah Rukh Khan’s chats requesting him to quash the case against Aryan, Wankhede refused to comment about it directly, citing an affidavit submitted to the court that restricts him from speaking about the case. However, he clarified that he did not leak the chats, saying, “I am not that weak that I will leak things.” When asked if the chats were deliberately leaked to portray Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan as victims, he responded, “Whoever did this, I will tell them to try harder.”
Addressing allegations that he accepted a Rs 25 crore bribe to release Aryan, Wankhede dismissed the claims outright, stating, “I never released him, I, in fact, caught him. The case is in court and I have trust in our country’s judiciary system.”
He also revealed that he has no interest in watching films and admitted that he didn’t watch Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. The film includes a line speculated to be a dig at the officer. Speaking about this, Wankhede said, “I don’t know if I was the target of the dialogue. I didn’t watch the film. I am not that big of a person that someone will use my name to make their film a hit.” However, he objected to the use of the word ‘baap’ in the dialogue, calling it “roadside and third-rate.”
Wankhede also touched upon his relationship with SRK, recalling that they shared a cordial rapport during his tenure as DCP of the Mumbai airport. “We were in a very respectful, honourable relation,” he said. Responding to allegations that his team harassed Aryan Khan while the media portrayed him as a kid, Wankhede firmly countered, saying, “I don’t think I arrested a kid. In 23-years of age Bhagat Singh gave his life for the country. You won’t call him a kid.”
