The Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sam Bahadur, a biopic based on the life of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw, is holding steady at the box office. After a lukewarm opening, the movie recorded a jump due to positive word of mouth, raking in Rs 10.30 crore on the first Sunday. On Wednesday, the film collected an additional Rs 3.30 crore, maintaining a consistent range of Rs 3.30-3.50 crores since Monday. The total domestic collection of the film now stands at Rs 35.85 crore, according to Sacnilk. Sam Bahadur had an overall 21.60 percent Hindi occupancy on Wednesday. Worldwide, the film has raked in Rs 45 crore.
Directed by Meghana Gulzar, Sam Bahadur clashed with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal at the box-office. Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, the film opened to Rs 63.30 crore. On Wednesday, Animal made Rs 30 crore, bringing its total collection to Rs 312 crore.
Despite heavy competition from Animal, Sam Bahadur has been holding steady. Pune recorded the highest Hindi occupancy with 39.50 percent, followed by Mumbai with 30 percent occupancy. Sam Bahadur unfolds during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, showcasing Sam Manekshaw’s leadership of the Indian Army, leading to the birth of Bangladesh. Sam Bahadur also stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Sheikh in pivotal roles.
Vicky had previously opened up about clashing with Ranbir’s Animal at the box-office. In an interview with indianexpress.com, Vicky had said, “When two opening batsmen come to the crease, playing for the same team, you won’t say that the two batsmen are clashing with each other; they are playing for a single team, so we are playing for Hindi cinema.”
