‘Salman Khan was surrounded by 25,000 people in Chandni Chowk, had to hide him in a car’: Kabir Khan
Salman Khan and the team of Bajrangi Bhaijaan were surrounded by 25,000 people while shooting in Chandni Chowk. Decoy cars had to be brought in so Salman could be taken out of the area.

Salman Khan has been a star for over 30 years but one of the most loved films of his career continues to be the 2015 film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, directed by Kabir Khan. In a recent interview, Kabir recalled some anecdotes from the making of the film and shared that on their first day in Delhi, he shot with Salman outside Jama Masjid. The next day, when they were shooting in Chandni Chowk, a crowd of 25,000 people had gathered around the area.
Speaking to Mashable India, Kabir said, “We were shooting inside a lane in Chandni Chowk. We didn’t know what was happening outside. The police came, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, and he said ‘you don’t know what’s happening outside, but you are surrounded by 25,000 people. You will not be able to leave this place. Because everyone knows that you are working with Salman Khan here.”
Kabir said that they had to bring in some “decoy cars” and had to hide Salman in one of the cars to get him out of the area. “Then we had to bring some decoy cars, a few Innovas, we had to hide Salman in the car, found another way to get Salman out of that place, then we could leave. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been able to leave. 25,000 people were around us, that’s his stardom,” he recalled.
After Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir and Salman worked together in 2017’s Tubelight, which did not impress the audience.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan also starred Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Harshali Malhotra. Kabir also spoke about Harshali’s casting in the film and said that since Munni’s character in the film did not have any dialogues, he had told casting director Mukesh Chhabra to look at faces from across the country and a few countries abroad as well. “She should just look like she is from the mountains. Because language is not a barrier,” he said.
