‘Salman Khan may spend his evenings drinking, but…’: Gadar director Anil Sharma recalls working with superstar
Filmmaker Anil Sharma had a great experience working with both Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra, whom he praised for being 'focused' only on their work.

Film director Anil Sharma, who is looking forward to the release of Gadar 2, revisited the time when he worked with Salman Khan on the 2010 film Veer, and with Priyanka Chopra on her debut Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. The filmmaker had a great experience working with both stars, whom he praised for being ‘focused’ only on their work.
Talking about his experience working with Khan, Sharma told ETimes, “Khan sahab ke saath toh bohot maza aaya (I had a great time working with Khan). People say that he is a drunkard and he goes to parties. These are all nonsense claims. Salman may have a drink or two to relax in the evening like any other person, but he is only focused on his work.”
The filmmaker described Salman Khan as a ‘library’ of films. Sharma added, “I have never seen him talk ill about anyone. He will never say that this person is bad or that person is bad. If I am with Salman Khan for four hours, he will talk only about the scenes, songs, and films for the entire four hours. He remembers so many songs, scenes and films. He is a library, he is the Google of films.”
Anil Sharma also clarified that people who think Salman Khan is “arrogant” are wrong. “People say he has arrogance, it is not arrogance, he is just immersed in his own world. If you will poke him, he will react. But he doesn’t mean harm.” The film director also described the actor as a ‘vagabond’ as he sleeps in his vanity van, after going to the gym.
Sharma holds similar views about Priyanka Chopra, whom he directed in her debut movie The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, also starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.
He said, “She was quite raw when I met her. Everyone works hard on their first film, even she did. She was needed on the set for 10 days, but she stayed there for the entire two months, no matter if she gets a chair to sit on, or food to eat, her biggest plus point is that she is too focused on her work. She only wants to grow, and for that, she will choose the right path. She would never pull anyone down to move ahead.”
Sharma added, “After so many years, she has now opened up about a thing or two. But in her initial days, only her work mattered to her. She didn’t care about any politics and she is a damn good actor.” He was perhaps making a reference about Priyanka’s recent comments on experiencing sexism and bullying in Bollywood.
Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, will have an Independence Day release.
