When the city went to sleep on a seemingly peaceful night on January 15, Bollywood could not have imagined waking up to one of the most chilling pieces of news it had heard in recent times. At a time when it, and the city of Mumbai at large, was yet to recover from the shock left by the brutal murder of politician Baba Siddique, Bollywood was taken by shock once again as actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence. In the incident, he suffered multiple stab injuries, including to his neck and back. Fortunately, none of the wounds were fatal, and the actor was back on his feet in no time. Now, Saif has finally opened up in detail about the traumatic incident, sharing all that happened during the incident. During an appearance on the Twinkle Khanna and Kajol-hosted chat show Two Much, he recalled, "Kareena (Saif's wife and actor Kareena Kapoor) had been out (the previous night), and I had just finished watching a movie with the boys (his children Taimur and Jeh). So, we went to sleep quite late, around two in the morning. After Kareena returned, we had a small chat before we turned in. Then, the maid came in and she said, 'Jeh baba ke kamre mein koi hai. Uske haath mein chaaku hai aur bol rahe hai usko paisa chahiye' (There's someone in Jeh's room. He has a knife in his hand, and he says he wants money)." He continued, "I kind of heard that and rolled out of bed. I barged into Jeh's room in the dark and I saw this guy standing over his bed with a knife." When Akshay Kumar, who was with Saif as a guest on the show, asked him if the attacker was pointing the knife at the boy, Saif said that he wiggled the weapon around so much that it eventually left cut marks on both Jeh and the nanny. "I thought he was smaller than me, which means he's not very large. And I jumped on him. Jeh later told me, 'It was a big mistake. You should have punched or kicked him instead.' But I jumped and we started this fight. He went mad. He had two knives and he started slashing all over me." Saif added, "I tried to remember my training and blocked a couple of them. But then I felt a thump in my back that was really hard. By then, everyone was out of their rooms. Gita, our domestic help, aided me in this struggle and pushed the guy off me. She saved my life at that point because he had cut me everywhere. Then we locked him in a room." Recalling that he immediately went and grabbed the swords that they had on display in the dining room, the actor said he had, however, grown very tired by then due to all the cuts. "I had been nicked in the spine," he said, adding that Kareena, seeing this, advised him to go to the hospital immediately. By that time, the attacker had fled the scene. "Taimur looked at me and asked, 'Are you going to die?' I said, 'I don't think so, but I have a pain in the back.' Kareena was supposed to take the kids to Lolo's (Karisma Kapoor). We stopped a rickshaw and then Tim (Taimur) said he wanted to come with me. I was getting a lot of peace looking at him." Mentioning that the staff at the hospital were half asleep when he walked in, Saif added, "I asked a guy, 'Can you get a stretcher?' He asked, 'Wheelchair?' And I said, 'No, I think I am going to need a stretcher.' But seeing he wasn't waking up, I said, 'I am Saif Ali Khan and this is a medical emergency.' That's when all pandemonium broke loose." Recalling him walking out of the hospital, which raised many eyebrows regarding the severity of his wounds, Saif said, "When everything was finished. a lot of advice came in, including regarding how to go out. The media were curious. Nobody was listening to me. It was very bad, yes, but I could walk. They had stitched it up. It was painful to walk, but I could. The wheelchair was not required." Twinkle added to this by recalling her conversation with Saif's mother, Sharmila Tagore, who told her she had advised him to go in a wheelchair. "But I didn't want to create any worry," he said.
