Prem Chopra says he’s related to Kapoors, but had to survive on small jobs: ‘In film business, nobody is your relation’

He said that of all the people in the film industry, he was closest to ‘jolly good chap’ Rishi Kapoor and Jeetendra. Asked what they’d discuss when they got together, he joked, “Girls.” Prem Chopra was then asked if there was any overlap between the women they dated, and he said, “They’re grandmothers now… We would play pranks on each other, it was very funny.” He added that eventually, their wives also started hanging out with them at their parties.

Most recently, Prem Chopra worked with Rishi’s son, Ranbir Kapoor, on the controversial film Animal. They’d previously worked together on the cult film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. About Ranbir, the veteran actor said, “He’s a fine actor. He’s a very involved actor.”

Prem Chopra is related to the Kapoor through marriage, but he said that in the film business, ‘nobody is your relation’. He said, “Here, nobody is your relative, nobody can do favours for you. You have to prove yourself.” He said that unlike insider, he survived on small jobs and accepted whatever roles that he was given.
