Actor Ridhi Dogra said that she was very anxious about taking on the role of Kaveri Amma in the film Jawan, and that she consulted producer Ekta Kapoor and former journalist Rajeev Masand before agreeing to play the part. In Jawan, Kaveri is the mother-figure to Shah Rukh Khan’s Azaad. She appears in an extended flashback sequence, in which Azaad’s mother, played by Deepika Padukone, is imprisoned and executed.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ridhi was asked about her role, and she said that she had apprehensions about it, because she wasn’t sure if she could play SRK’s mother-figure on screen. But she took it on as a challenge, especially after she was encouraged to do so by Ekta and Rajeev, who now serves as the head of the Dharma Cornerstone Agency.

She said that she was only told about her own scenes, and was completely in the dark about the rest of the movie, which made things more difficult. “I didn’t have regrets, but I was very anxious, I’ll be honest,” she said. Ridhi added, “I didn’t know much of the story. If I knew what was in Atlee’s head, I don’t think I would’ve been so anxious. So, I would always go up to him, sit in front of him and be like, ‘I’m feeling like this’.”

Ridhi said that she realised that she couldn’t keep bothering Atlee about her concerns, because she is a professional actor and it is her duty to play her character. But she said that he was very sweet about it, and even though the set had thousands of people at all times. Previously, Ridhi had said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan that it was ‘unfortunate’ that she played Shah Rukh’s mother-figure in the movie, and that she, like most women, would’ve wanted to be cast opposite him in a romantic role.

Jawan has grossed nearly Rs 900 crore worldwide, and has broken several box office records in India. Ridhi, who is best known for her work in television, will also be seen in the upcoming Tiger 3, which is a part of the same universe as Shah Rukh’s Pathaan.
