After the grand launch of SCREEN in October, the fifth edition of SCREEN Live took place in New Delhi on Friday. Actor-couple Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal were the guests at the event. They were joined by the young stars of the film Girls Will Be Girls, Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron. Directed by Shuchi Talati, the coming-of-age drama, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, has been co-produced by Richa and Ali.

This was the second time a SCREEN session was held in Delhi. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd made it clear that this memorable session should be shared with a wider audience. To that end, we are thrilled to bring it to your SCREEN. The session is now available for viewing on the YouTube channel of The Indian Express and SCREEN. The SCREEN LIVE event was presented by Lenskart with grocery partner Milkbasket, fashion partner Mirraw, mobility partner Abhibhus, snacking partner Farmley and travel partner Ixigo.

Girls Will Be Girls has been screened at festivals across the world; it won an award at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film has been praised for its performances, and its delicate handling of female characters. It’s one of the rare films to hold a 100% ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Indian Express’ review of the film called it one of the best of 2024.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Panigrahi spoke about the vulnerabilities of her character in the film, Mira, a student who experiences love for the first time when an new boy joins her school. “(I think the easiest part of the role was) the vulnerability it required,” she said. “A massive amount of credit goes to how Shuchi wrote the entire thing. It’s supposed to be an awkward and vulnerable space for a teenager, and it was an absolute joy to embody that. I changed a lot of lines in the script related to Mira’s body, for my own. I told Shuchi that I feel like I have to look good, that everything about me should be okay before I get on-screen. She said that I don’t have to put myself through (the pressure) of looking perfect. She said, I like you just the way you are and I didn’t pick you for Mira just because of how you look — you embody other things about her that are more important to me. After that, a lot of my inhibitions were dodged off.”
